Only a short distance...roughly half-way, but he need not run all the way. There are five "woods", and after he reached "3" he would see his way clear to slow down and just putter along to the exit.

After that there could be irons, but there is no suggestion our dog had a starchy disposition, nor is it said he was a sailor who was running out of wind, so he should not be "in irons".

When he is finally collared perhaps we could ask him if he learned the secret about what bears do in the woods.

The dog can run a very long distance into the woods if it akes spiral path starting from the outer circumference and spirals its way into the center. The actual distance would be the magnitude equivalent to the full area of the woods assuming the dog does not cover the same ground twice.

if the dog runs in a tight circle shape starting from the outside, going towards the inside without stepping on the same place twice, till it reaches the middle, then it can go on for a long time... but if it takes a straight path, then it will get out much faster...
so it depends on how much time and stamina the dog has. as in if it were tired, it woul take the straight path, but if it were excersizing or watevr, it wud be takin the long way...
