That depends upon state law. Some states require you to use your Federal filing status. Others let you choose whatever's best for you.

Depending on state tax laws. In Michigan, the answer is no. I would think most states would require you to file jointly.

It depends on where you live. Pennsylvania allows this, but many states don't and require that you file the same way for state as for federal.

I bet there isn't a state that has income tax that allows this.

You have to be consistent. Either you file jointly or you don't.
