Yes.

It is possible, but, I hope, highly unlikely.

The Catholic Church teaches that the Pope is infallible at closely defined times.

The Pope is only infallible when he, in union with the body of bishops, solemnly teaches that a doctrine as true. This is called "ex cathedra", literally meaning in Latin "from the chair".

This comes from the words of Jesus to Peter (the first Pope) and the Apostles (the first bishops), "Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven" (Matthew 18:18) and "He who hears you hears me" (Luke 10:16).

At all other times the Pope can be just as wrong or sinful as you and me and be in need of forgiveness. Or even go to hell.

For more information, see the Catechism of the Catholic Church, section 891: http://www.usccb.org/catechism/text/pt1sect2chpt3art9p4.htm#891 and http://www.catholic.com/library/Papal_Infallibility.asp

With love in Christ.

Do you really believe that there is a place called hell?

From my perspective there is no such place, so the question could the Pope go to hell is irrelevent. The question then becomes - "Can anyone go to hell?"

If there is no such place - duh!

Now - Can a person be in a Hellish-Like Place?

On this plane of existence anything is probable/possible. And - Yes we can observe that a person is in such a place, and can also feel that we sometimes are in such a place. Yet is that place actually real or is it merely a waking dream being created by the situations, circumstance or events that we find ourselves within?

We find that this is all wrong, it shouldn't be this way or that way and we are thrown into that hellish place because of that observation regarding the situation, circumstance or event. Now - What happens when we no longer see or experience the situation, circumstance or event as being wrong?

Millions of Catholics have died in the past believing that there is such a gory place called limbo: But now, to the surprise of the world, the present pope discarded the doctrine of limbo and threw it into the vault of oblivion in the Vatican City.

Souls of unbaptized children go to limbo and souls of grown ups go to purgatory. You must not be surprised if someday you will wake up to know that the Pope is also discarding the doctrine of purgatory, after all, it is not in the Bible, nor the idea of it.

But where do souls go after death? Will they linger for forty days near the place where they died and hunt for anything? Let us consult the word of God.

We are all human and fallible. Religiously speaking it is possible for anyone to go to Heaven or Hell. Being a Pope is a job and doesn't automatically provide you with immunity from Hell.
You could ask Is it possible for a policeman to commit a crime?

Feel free to tell the pope to go to hell. However, as there is no such place, he would find it impossible to comply with your request.
