I have a 06 Honda CR-V and I'm trying to run the power wire from the battery terminal all the way back to the trunk. The problem is I can't find an opening in the firewall so I can get it inside the car. The wire is a 4 gauge wire. Any ideas how I can do this without drilling? I've asked local stereo shops but they keep telling me they'll do it for me and charge me, they won't actually tell me how.

The simple fact is that sometimes you just have to drill.

The reason they won't tell you is that there's no simple method that works the same on every vehicle. Sometimes you can share the same access point that the factory wiring uses, and sometimes you can't. I've installed amps into lots of different kinds of vehicles, but I don't have wiring methods memorized for each one. Generally I just have to take a good look and decide when I see it. But if you're unwilling to drill, you may have to let someone else do the job for you.

Usually (not always) the factory wiring runs through a rubber grommet underneath the driver's side dash. If so, you can often poke a hole in the grommet and run your new wire through there. However, it's easy to damage stock wiring if you're not careful or don't have the right tools.

Also, vehicles with automatic transmissions often have a "clutch plate" on the firewall, in the area where the clutch mechanism would be if the vehicle had a standard transmission. This is often a convenient spot to drill.

Good luck

The best way to run a power cable is to drill a hole and get a rubber body plug (available at most auto parts stores) for the right size hole andrun the wire through it.. It will save possibly damaging any wiring in the cars harness plus is totally sealed from letting water or anything else into the vehicle.. For a 4 gauge wire i would reccommend a 3/4" size hole. If you ever decide to get rid of the vehicle you can pull the wire out and get another plug the same size with no cut in it to ensure it is totally sealed off. Ive have seen people run cable through the rubber grommets for the factory wiring harness and pull it back out then therre is a well noticable hole there where water or whatever could come into the vehicle. If your not up to putting holes in your new vehicle I would strongly reccommend letting the pros do it for ya.
