Today when going to pick up my kids my truck died twice pulling into the driveway. started right back up. Never had the problem before. Then when i was almost home it died again. It would try to rev but wouldnt then died. Electrical and everything else seems fine. It turns over but wont start. Seems like its not getting fuel. Anyone have any ideas if its the fuel pump or what it could be, and if its somethig that would be covered under warranty? Its got about 45000 miles and is a 2004 bought new.

could be several things but will start with simplest to hardest (most expensive):

1. trash/water in fuel. get a open top can (like a green bean can with the lid removed) and put under the fuel filter (drivers side, kinda under the master cylinder) and there is a bleed lever to drain the fuel filter. make sure the can is dry so you can see if there's any water/trash that drains out.

2. fuel pump. not sure if the '04 has the single or dual fuel pumps (lift pump in tank then elec. to feed the injector pump which was a bad design and later replaced with a single inline pump, not sure which year they changed???). with the dual pump system, the lift pump in the tank failed typically early (36-50K miles) and when replaced, replace with the single type system. when this pump fails, the injector pump will go soon afterwards!!!

3. injector pump. on the 24v electronic pumps, they are only good for 80-120K miles (so hopefully not your problem).

typically (unless you bought an extended warranty) any fuel type issue is not covered by factory warranty. 3 year/36K miles and after than very limited (engine 5yr/100K, drivetrain 5yr/70K but these do NOT include support components like fuel lines/pumps).

check the fuel filter first and/or replace, then if that doesn't fix it, more than likely the lift pump. good luck!!!

The 2004 or 2004.5 there different look on the valve cover and it will say 305 hp or 325 hp 600 series if 325hp the exhaust is 4" and plenty in size. Check and see if it has the aluminum intercooler or the plastic. If plastic than don't put more than a 65hp Modular or it will blow the cooler. We have 2 and the 05 blow the intercooler warranty covered it as yours is out. $1200. if it needs replacing. The mileage is OK as your dad hasn't off roaded or abused it.If U stay with the 100 hp mod the trans will hold up unless U rod it hard and nothing will hold up. We Have many upgrades and love the truck both were new. 425hp Ram/Air cat ran away.Ours are 3500 SWB Auto 4x4s.
