I am stickking with my preseason prediction of Denny Hamlin. Denny has run very well, up to this point. He has had three wins slip away due to bad luck. He had the three problems on pit row that have probably cost him the win, as he had the best car on them occasions. He had the two problems with his tire changers, that cost him a lot of positions on the track, when he was leading. He also had the one speeding penalty on pit row, that cauesed him to get a stop and go penalty. Jeff Gordon has had some good luck, to this point. That is why he is up front. I think that Denny has pretty much turned his luck around. When the Chase starts, Denny will stay consistent, and finish as this years Nextel Cup champion. Gordon's momentum will slow, and he will finish probably around third place in the final standings. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

Sadly, I am gonna have to agree with the common consensus and say Jeff Gordon is going to win the Cup. The reason being that the 24 team is on a tear right now! No one or nothing can stop them. No crew chief? No problem, lets put up a top 5. Then there was the crazy pit strategy at Pocono. Everything just seems to be going his way. Not to mention, that when the chase points are reset, he is going to have a significant lead over everyone else (except his Hendrick teammate, Jimmie Johnson). Therefore, I would say that it is safe to conclude that Jeff Gordon will likely win his fifth championship.

I'm going with the defending champ, Jimmie Johnson. He has had awesome cars this year and has never finished worse than 5th in the standings. That team has the confidence and consistency to not get down if they struggle a little. Even when he started off bad last year they perservered and still brought the cup home. In 2004, when Kurt edged him out by 8 points, everyone had written them off. Then he peeled off 3 straight wins in the chase to finish a very close 2nd. It will come down to who avoids the big mistakes and the 48 team is one of the calmest ones under pressure.

Jeff Gordon is going to win the Championship this year. Mainly because he has stepped it up a lot this year, he is winning races, and he is running in the same championship form that he was 10 years ago,

The way Jeff Gordon and the Hendricks team are going. They will. I think Jeff Gordon might. He's leading the points. They just have to watch themselves when it comes to penalities though and don't touch the new car of tomorrow.....
