If they have a work permit then they are NOT illegal aliens. They are legal and registered workers here with an invitation and most of the rights and protections that citizens enjoy. Illegal aliens do not have a permit and are a problem because:
1. They are not registered and no back ground check is performed. If they entered the US without our knowledge they could be here for any reason. It may come as a surprise but our country has enemies and if people can cross our border with a baby they can probably cross with a bomb.
2. They do not pay taxes nor do they work for minimum wage so they take jobs that U.S. citizens can't compete for and give nothing back to our economy. They take services such as emergency health care and contribute nothing in return.
3. They are taken advantage of by our own criminal element and since they are here illegally they have few recourses to defend themselves. They sometimes end up virtual slaves under threat of being turned in and deported.
4. Anger and resentment about the above makes them prone to general hostility towards and from citizens. If you doubt this look at the number of hateful post just in these forums.
Illegal immigration is not defensible. legal immigration is allready allowed as it should be.

Once again, half of the answerers are dragging race into this issue...
What do I think of Illegal Immigration? I have great disdain for it because IT IS ILLEGAL! It is breaking the law!
Why aren't any of these people worried about LEGAL IMMIGRATION? Do they think that they can't become legal citizens? Millions upon millions have, so it obviously CAN be done. Have any of these illegals ever thought that if they at the least put the ball in motion to become a US citizen, they would have less to worry about down the road? No families being split and deported, the comfort of not have to live in shadows from INS, the rewards that come with being an American?
If someone wants to better for their family that is awesome - but why can't it be done LEGALLY? My family did it 65 years ago, why can't all of these others?
Eduardo G: you are a horrible representative. Americans are snobby? Why? Because we have the balls to stand up for the laws of our country? If we are so snobby why don't you take a hike?
MEXICAN*BANDIDO y QUE: "Good, The U.S. should stop looking for ways to impoverish the Mexicans; it has been happening since the creation of both countries."
- this is possibly one of the most ignorant things I have ever read. Thank the Spanish for robbing your asses blind when you were conquered! There was no United States then AMIGO! So it is the United States fault that Mexico is a 3rd world country? Has NOTHING to do with decades of corrupt government in Mexico? Has NOTHING to do with the Mexican government at all? If it is all the United States fault, I would be PISSED at the US and not want to live there in any way shape or form...maybe you should leave if you hate America so much. You are playing the "blame" and "race" game - and that is weak and it is a COP OUT.

It is one thing to reply with an educated point, but sad when people speak with hatred in their hearts. Maria, you hate that undocumented people "spit" on US laws. I would bet my soul that at some point in your uneducated life, you have broken some laws. So you never even drive above 65 mph or ever will? Human nature will break some laws to accommodate themselves. Undocumented are just reacting on human survival and EVERYONE's situation is different. If anyone lived in any country where there was little food, shelter, water, medicine, war, communist govt. , if you were educated, I am sure you would "jump a fence" too. It is called survival.
This country was founded on greed and exploitation and if this country keeps undocumented people employed under the table, the influx will continue. There is the problem
JB 65 years ago, the laws were easier and less population
but it is ignorant how other peoples hatred, and racism gets stronger by the day

You break the law then you are disrespecting the country and its citizens.
Now if you have a working permit, and use used your own identity to get it not someone elses or a fake one, then I have no problem with you.
If you are working and you did all the things you needed to do then I wish you luck.
If you broke the laws, if you refuse to at least learn to communicate with most of the people who speak english, if you wave a flag from another country in my face, and many other things that are disrespecting the people and the country then no I am completely against a person like that being here.
So many illegals and supporters thing people against illegal immigration have no idea how it is. Ive been to Mexico, my grandfather was an immigrant (legal), I have friends who are from Mexico, Chile, Peru ( matter of fact I met a very nice looking gal I had lunch with today from Peru (yes she is legal),
and also other countries.
The immigration system isnt working very well and it needs to be improved. But you have to follow the rules until then.
And you will get much farther and have more opportunities if you show appreciation for the opportunity to achieve a better life. More Americans will learn spanish, but do not expect people to do it your way, you will have to do it their way and learn some english. It will get better. But obey the law.

I love when people who don't know how to speak proper English start ranting about others "learning the language." Clearly, they don't respect it enough to bother with learning how to speak it correctly, so they are the last ones who need to tell others to "learn the language."
The reason why RACE is mentioned when discussing illegal immigration is because the only illegal immigrants people in this country worry about are Mexican. One state (can't remember which) is trying to pass a law right now that will give police officers the right to ask hispanics about their legal status, even if they are pulled over/stopped/picked up for the most minute legal infraction. THAT is not about illegal immigration, that is about RACE because they will not be asking anyone else about THEIR legal status. And it's amazing to watch just how quickly peoples racist tendencies surface anytime the subject of illegal immigration comes up.
The one thing that I do agree with is that this is a very difficult subject. I can see the points people are making on people coming to this country for a better life, etc etc.. But the bottom line is that the law is the law. It's hard to get people to respect you when you don't respect them. Neither side is handling the situation well and I doubt there will ever be a resolution that we all can be satisfied with.

OK i travel a lot , so as you mentioned those latino countries, there are countries worse then that in asia, YOU have to think if they leagally migrate here ok if its illegal its wrong. Y is it wrong, because they are taking our jobs, did you know its easier to be a docotor in india and come here and practice , rather then an american doctor only because they are cheaper, Americans should be givin jobs first then obviously there are lotterys where america invites people from other countries to fill the surplus of jobs. We cant just have anyone come in and start making money. Its not a free for all free dibbz kind of thing. Rules and regualtions must be followed.
I know it sounds harsh but you are looking at it one wayed as where they have a hard life not as where americans lives are gtting harder.. also i want to point out i am not racist. i am half indian and half boricuan...this answer is justified.

If you saw what happen to France, they had problems with uncontrolled immigration. RIot broke out because there were more people than jobs available. THe North African Immigrants became very angry with their situation and racism from both sides rise. Violence broke out and spread through out Europe. If we don't control immigration, we can no longer mantain our higher standard of living. It doesn't help them when they come in and they don't find a job, it acutally makes things worse with everyone. ANd as for "we do jobs you don't se other s doing?" that is not true. THe number one jobs, illegal takes is construction, a highly desirable job for Americans.

There's only one problem with illegal immigration.....it's illegal. Lots of people take the time to come here legally, they have our respect. Coming here illegally is like going to the store and walking out without paying for what you take, it's just wrong.

Here in America many people say we need to get rid of illegal immigrants, but if those same people had to pay $10/lb for strawberries, they would riot too. Legal immigration is SO difficult, it's practically impossible for people who aren't wealthy. Immigration is not a bad thing, and calling them criminals and sending them all packing will not improve anyone's quality of life. Illegal immigrants DO NOT abuse our social programs, they commit less crimes (proportionally) than legal americans, and they do the jobs we need done. If we get rid of all the people willing to work for sub-minimum wage, all our jobs will go places where they can get cheap labor.
