I need to change my eating habits. I am considering dieting. Mostly to be healthier and to lose the weight I gained from my pregnancy. Low carb, high carb, no carb, high protein, I am lost. My parents didn't really eat healthy, so I didn't. My question is would seeing a nutritionist be beneficial for my situation? I really want to set a good example to my son to eat healthy.

seeing a nutritionist might help if you have no idea about healthy eating and what to look for in foods, how to read labels.
healthy foods are - whole grains (old fashioned oatmeal, whole wheat breads, pitas, wraps, whole wheat pasta, brown and wild rice etc), lean meats (turkey, chicken breasts), soy products, milk products (yogurts, cottage cheese, skim milk etc), legumes, veggies (there are lots to choose from, but peas, potatoes and corn is not in this group), fruit, nuts, seeds, dried fruit, fish, healthy fats (avocados, olive oil, nut butters).
to lose weight permanently you have to make permanent changes in your lifestyle (diet and exercise).
eat small meals every 2-3 hours (thats 5-6 small meals a day) - that way your body gets enough calories when it needs them and not have any extra left to store in fat reserves.

You don't have to follow a fad diet to be healthy. Think about this........if you had a plate of food and on that plate was a piece of fried chicken, a dinner roll, mashed potatoes and gravy, a slice of apple pie finished with a big glass of pepsi to wash it all down.
This plate would be a healthier option than the other: a boneless skinless grilled chicken breast, steamed vegtables, skip the dinner roll, save the potato for lunch and have it baked instead, fresh fruit instead of pie and a glass of ice water to wash it all down.
You have to have healthy alternatives for what you're currently eating.
Just try not to eat boxed or microwavable foods and no more cookies, cakes, candy or soda.
You could definately benefit by seeing a nutritionist. You can see one at any WIC office and pick up pamplets on healthier food choices there also.

You should be lost. Most people are confused, even nutritionists. I think there is a problem with people's brains. Site below explains everything and you never need to be confused.

Eat lots of good carbs and avoid bad carbs. Eat plenty of good fat that helps you burn fat. People eat too much protein. Learn why meat and dairy are fattening. Salt has no calories but is very fattening.
