In the long run, you can't win playing blackjack unless you learn to count cards. Even then, you're only going to give yourself a 1 percent edge. So, it will take a LOT of betting to win a little bit of money.

What Mr Luva says is complete bunk. There is no betting system that will let you overcome the house advantage. There are no predictable streaks in any form of gambling.

There is actually some truth to what jdog says about sitting at a full table. You won't win at a full table, you'll just lose a lot slower.

Basically, the casino wants a certain number of hands dealt every hour. Just to use a number, let's say it's 200. If you sit by yourself, you will be dealt all 200 hands in an hour. With the house edge, you'll lose an average of about 1 percent of each bet. So, if you're betting $10 on each bet, you'll lose about $20 over the hour.

If there are 7 people at the table, you'll see about 30 hands in an hour. So, on average, you'll lose about $3 in an hour.

The only advantage a player has in a casino is the ability to leave the table absolutely any time you want.

Set a limit for how much you're willing to lose, AND how much you'd like to win. Once you hit either of those numbers, just walk away.

Over the longrun basic strategy will not be enough. You need to combine basic strategy with a good BETTING strategy. That is the key to blackjack.

I have a system I developed that has worked well for me over the past few years. This year alone I have had 25 sessions of blackjack and I am up about $5,000 playing an average bet of $25/hand.

It is simple. You only use 2 bets. One base unit and your second bet is 2.5 times your original unit. For example we will use $10 and $25. Blackjack is based on streaks, both good and bad. You start out with a $10 bet. If you win, you go up to your higher amount of $25. If you win from there, you stay at $25, if you lose you go back to $10. If you get on a good streak of 4 wins you will win $10+$25+$25+$25. For a profit of $85. Now let's say you lose the next 4 hands since this is a game of streaks. You will lose $25+$10+$10+$10 and you lost only $55. A profit of $30 overall!! Now take this up to $15/$35 or $20/$50 as your bets and now you are talking considerable money.

This system works in the longrun combined with basic strategy. Sometimes you will win and lose alternating hands for a while and that is one downfall of this system, but these are hopefully rare and over the long haul you will make money. Besides poker I think blackjack is the best game in the casino and I love to see people win at it. Good luck!

no because the casino always has an edge. If you heard about the MIT blackjack team, they counted cards and had an edge, so they were able to profit from the casinos. But they were essentially cheating.
