I know it was food going down the wrong pipe, which has happened before but not like this time. I was by my self and gasping for air. As this was happening my sides felt like they were going to explode. When I could finally breathe I had tears in my eyes and this discomfort/pain on my sides. It is now 5 hours later and the pain has decreased to a slight discomfort but still ther and that's whay worries me. I just want to know if anyone else has experienced this and is it normal? Thanks all!

This is normal because you were exercising your muscles in the rib cage by grasping for air. The muscles have been overused and it's going to take time for the pain to disappear.

Take a hot bath with 2c. of dissolved Epsom salts. Soak for 30 minutes. The Epsom salts will help eliminate the lactic acid that forms on the muscles from over exertion.
