There are different opinions. As the Supersould, the Supreme Power is every where and in each particle of the universe, It is in the foods we eat. By this way we eat the one whom we love and worship. In such case shall we starve? Nay! We have to eat whatever is given by Nature / vegitation / vegetables, roots, grains, nuts, fruits and all which is naturally available and there is no violance, killing by deed, thought, etc. and also refusing others just rights over it. If you take meat / flesh, it required killing of any animal. But in certain places there is no alternate to preserve such food for odd times like constant snow fall, constant and incessant rains or the high hilly sides where no grains, fruits can be made available thoughout the year. Thus the food which keeps the body stout for every work but doesn't create violent, mercilessness, demoniak sentiments and actions which are harmful to peaceful co-existence.

Pure Vegetarian food means food obtained from vegetables and fruits only. It is also called "satwik food" in our religious texts.
When you sit for meditation you must shed all intellectual activities. The mind which is nothing but collection of thoughts should be empties of thoughts. Better get a good Guru or teacher to guide you meditation.

But milk and milk product from Soybeans are veg.
