I just wondered if you ever tell them to go out and get a real job, and to stop begging for money, and tell them to tell the people they are collecting money for to go get a job? I mean anyone is capable of working. Have you ever heard the phrase a trained monkey could do that job? I know people in wheelchairs and people who are blind and people who are deaf and Etc. that work. Don't you think everyone should have to take responsibility for themselves and their own life? Even hurricane victims, cause we all run into hard times at some point don't we? I just want to see how many contradictions I get from the last question I posted. : )

No I don't. It is one of the most difficult jobs to raise funds for charitable purposes. There are immense restrictions on what one is allowed to do. To be able to do fund-raising is especially for the smaller groups sometimes a huge task.
Our group has got no paid worker. All our work is unpaid because we have a compassion to help others to help them-self. We are rewarded in seeing people who did not have hope, getting up and being able to look after them-self after an initial period of help through us or who ever the charity is. There are many more people out there who need help to help them-self in many different ways.
That's basically what our group is doing, but to be able to do it we have to do fund-raising. It is a necessity to approach people and ask if they would give something towards a good cause. I have got no reason to be angry if a charitable organization phones and ask me for support.

Sometimes I get irritated if I see them always coming back to my house to ask for donations specially if I am in the middle of doing something. Once you give them some money, they often return for more and that is so irritating. I tell them that money is hard to come by these days, I work because I don't want to be beholden to anybody for my keep and you just ask and expect to be given some of my hard-earned money? Even if it's for a legitimate cause but if it happens once a week, I find that too much for my liking - even if I am generous by nature (my kids tell me I'm too generous that others take advantage of it).

We understand what you are saying. But, don't spend precious energy getting upset. Just get your number on the 'do not call ' list. You will be a happier person!

No. I don't believe in getting angry at things I can do nothing about. There are BETTER ways to waste my time. INSTEAD, I listen to the callers do their job, tell them very nicely-"No thank you"... -& then hang up, -thinking, "Thank God I'm not in THEIR shoes..." :)

I have an answering machine and screen my calls. Telephone solicitors hate that as they have to go on to the next person on their list.
