Follow the wires on your alternator to the gray box in the fender well. This is your external regulator. Get the part numbers off of it and order a new one. It's the problem.

Sounds like you either need a new battery or a new voltage regulator. Have the battery checked for a shorted cell before you get the regulator. good luck.

well he's got it right but i own a 82 same engine.
i initially thought that i was going to put new brakes on it this week but i ended up spending $300 in repairs along with that moral of the story... idk... but make sure what you replace is what's wrong.

needs a new regulator,it may be built into the alternator,if it is, you either got a bad one or blew it hooking it up
