do you want to know what it means?
anyway, If you do...it means that you will get paid a week behind. For example, I get paid every week, but this coming Friday I'll get paid for what I worked last week, and so and so.

It's pretty common, particularly for hourly employees. They can't give you your paycheck the last day of the pay period, since they don't know until the end of the day how many hours you'll work that pay period so don't know how much your pay will be. Then it takes some time to get everything entered and the checks prepared.

It's not so much a hold as it takes time to calculate your pay and cut your check. If you're paid weekly and the week ends on Friday it would be impossible to figure your pay on Friday after quitting time and get your check to you. So, you get paid next Friday for the work done through this Friday.

Yes. It is a very common practice and quite legal. I'm not sure exactly what the question is.
