I had my first daughter's photos taken at sears and I loved them. The photograher was friendly and professional and they looked really nice. Everyone loved them. Personally I think that it is your choice which to go with but both Jcpenny and Sears take equally good photos.

Not only is Sears and Penny's, but KMART and WALMART are very good places to have photos made. Before my daughter left for Hawaii, we had photos made at Kmart. They had a special where we could get a certain amount of poses and select our choices. In total, I spent about $75 for several 8x10's, 5x7s and an assortment of wallet's. NOW - where they get you is - the poses. If you take several poses and like them all - you will get caught up in wanting to buy them. Also, they might try to get you alone, your boyfriend alone and of course, your daughter -all of these are considered 'poses' and you'll want some. They will show you the results quickly and you'll get all hyped and want them all - but be cool and level headed (smile).
Just as a suggestion - get several good professional ones - and then one Sunday afternoon when the weather is good - have a friend take a small 35 mm camera and you and your family take all the pics you need. All of the photo places *Walgreens, CVS, Kmart and others have great technology and can create some really nice photos.

Having gone to school for graphic design and taken classes with many photography majors...I can tell you that pricing is fair most of the time!
The equipment is expensive, but what you are really paying for is their knowledge, and talents!
That being said, Sears is a decent place to go. I don't know how much you should take, since that depends on how many pictures, and what sizes you want. I would say $100-130 for a larger package.
We had family portraits done there and they turned out nicely!

I like them both but...I prefer JcPenny's b/c they have the mix and match sheets/sizes (even of different poses!) for one set price (if you have a coupon, which you can find online at their website or in any parenting mag.) and their pics are taken on a platforn off of the ground, which is good for my 2 y/o b/c she likes to run off and move when they are taking her pic,lol...BUT Sears has many more props and backgrounds, but they cost more and their pics are mostly taken on the ground... So I guess you just have to weigh the pros and cons...:-)

I am going to give you a different way and it is up to you if you want to do it.
Why don't you look at this website and look over some of the portfolios in there of the photographers. Find a couple of photographers in your area that you like their style of work and then contact a couple of them and see if they would be interested in doing a TFP (Time For Prints) or TFCD (Time For CD). In other words you supply your time as a model he / she as a photographer and you get images in return. You will have to sign a model release so that you and he / she can use the images. I would suggest finding one that is starting out and also has a small portfolio since that one would be more willing to do it for free (TFP).

Hope this helps,

if you have the money, you can always look around, but if you are cheap like me, go to wal-mart and get the 7 dollar special!
there is only one pose, but you get a lot of pictures!!!(who needs a ton of poses?)
of course you will be hasseled to buy more poses, normally, but it is a good buy if you dont.....its a great photo and you will be taking many more yourself during your parenting years.
good luck
