my brother pat is 9 years old and doesnt know who do ride a bike. We have tried to teach him a few times but he is deathly afraid of falling and getting hurt. Any ideas on how I can help him get over his extreme fear.

It is hard to judge another's pain threshold.

I am also wondering if your brother has a balance problem either due to mild ear infection or very poor core muscular strength. A medical check up would be advisable.

If there are no health issues I suggest

both safety wear ( helmet and pads) and training wheels.

Get him a set of safety gear, like what rollerbladers wear-- Kneepads, elbow pads, wrist and palm guards, and a helmet. It will help prevent skinned knees and such when learning to ride a bike.

Also, make sure the bike's tires are properly inflated. Underinflated tires are difficult to balance on.

Good luck.

When I was little, my dad took my training wheels off my bike before I felt like I was ready. I didn't even try to ride my bike for a whole year after that because I was terrified. When your brother is ready to ride, when he wants to, he will. You can't force it on him. He has to be ready.
