The Bible states that Jesus carried a sword (Matthew 10:34) but never specifies what kind of sword. I think Jesus would have carried a Claymore. I know that a claymore is not appropriate to the time period but he was Jesus. Plus I think the claymore would have been useful in situations such as the money changers (nothing says watchout and pay attention like Hippie-Looking Dude smashing furniature to bits with big sword while screaming and yelling).

What kind of sword do you think Jesus carried around?

“Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.”

One of those cheap things one gets at a county fair? He didn't want the apostles to get sword envy.

The sword is just a metaphor, a figure of speech. Jesus will use His words. He will convert many of those who do not believe, with the truth. But this will happen only after man has had some time to battle each other, to a point of destruction. About three and half years of battle. 42 months. Then Jesus will step in. He will use the Words of God, as his sword, and convert many thousands. The remaining evil men will fight against Him, with modern weapons, not swords. But how can a mere human cause harm to a spiritual being.? How can humans fight angels? They can't, so they will lose. So you see, I think that the war will be between humans, and we will destroy ourselves almost to the point of humanity becoming extinct. Then Jesus will arrive and save mankind, by converting some of the evil people with his words, and then destroying the rest that do not convert. After that, the Earth will become a place of peace once again, for a few thousand years, until mankind is once again turning bad from influences from Satan, who will be let loose again. Angels are immortal, and so Satan is also, and cannot be destroyed, but he will be chained up for a thousand years. Not with ordinary chains, I am sure. But after a period of time, Satan will once again try to deceive humans.

Read your scripture. Matthew 10:34 does NOT say that Jesus carried a sword. It says "... I came not to send peace, but a sword". The idea being that some would believe Jesus and others would not and there would be enmity between them, as is often exhibited on this Blog.

Where does it say that Jesus carried a sword? The only sword Jesus carried was Truth. It cuts just like a sword and ask anybody---the Truth hurts.

Maybe it was symbolic as He carried the sword of Truth, the sword wasn't literally the sword of Truth, maybe it was a metaphor to his disciples. Besides, I believe since Jesus never sinned, and was pure and holy, the sword would have to be a metaphor, because why else would he have it in the first place?

Jesus Christ peace be upon him was a true prophet and all prophet carried swords. The nature of sword is difficult to tell by it must be common sword in those days. It is sure he was carrying truth but whenever a prophet bring truth to the people they oppose him and attach and all great prophets have defended their faith as far it was possible.

His disciples did carry swords, but Jesus was talking about his message and not a literal sword. He meant that his message was going to be so powerful and controversial that people would eventually have to choose between their family, friendships, or Jesus. And its so true!
