The mod-12 like the 97 is broken down by moving the pin at the end of the magazine tube in the opposite direction then turning the tube to the left 1/2 turn ,pull it out toward the end of barrel, about 11/2- 2in.. next you turn the barrel and mag. tube counter clockwise till the locking lugs disengage. the barrel & tube will seperate as a unit. BE sure the slide action rod attached to the forearm is clear. It goes back together in the reverse manner. Always make sure the pin in the tube is pushed back in the oppiset direction.. the pin should be centered in the tube.

You can try Winchesters site but since the model 12 hasn't been made since 1964, they may not have a tear down manual for you.

I could described how it is done but the best way to do this, if you don't want to purchase a manual, is to have a knowledgeable person show you step by step how it is done. That particular shotgun is very well made, probably the best ever but there are many machined parts so I wouldn't suggest a complete strip-down because it can be dicey if you are not 100% familiar with it.

Once you have done this a couple of times, it is very simple. I would still suggest getting a reprint manual on the gun and those are available on line for about 12-25 bucks apiece.
Remember, you don't have to "force" anything to take the gun apart. The value of your gun , if in just decent shape, will be close to 400.00 dollars.

If you go through Winchester, see if they can give you the date the gun was produced. Nice to have that info.

Good Luck.
