I think that a life spent enjoying art, participating in it, interpreting it your own way, is comparable to a walk in the woods every day. You are connected emotionally to the beauty that art brings into your life.

On a more logical side, I paint and I find that I now know why I like puzzles. Painting can be a puzzle solving venture and it's fun. So there is a lot to benefit from art. I look at paintings I have every day and they make me feel good. Where else can I get that satisfaction?

My whole life and many of my friends have been spent in art and no one can make a judgement that any of those lives are worthless. Life without art is a birthday without cake or Christmas without presents. The art industry is far more widespread than people think, one cannot pareticipate in any form of life without being touched by art, even if it is simple as a billboard, a story book or a video game. From cavemen to great masters all human life has been touched by art.

It's up to the person to figure it out. At times,(as a working artist) I feel it is utterly useless. Then, it becomes rewarding at times, like when I get a check!

On the spiritual side of "worth", I have witnessed people express great joy when standing in front of one of my pieces. Others have gotten a good hearty laugh. I made a lady cry after I did her portrait. She said I made her look depressed. (She did) and then she opened up and told me how depressed she was. Maybe the artist's expression is an open invitation for others to feel...for whatever that's worth.

Art is simply a form of expression. Now ask yourself, is it worthless to spend my life expressing myself in this way? Should I try another way? Is it really necessary at all?

No.

A life is a life. How it is spent is irrelevant.
Supposing you have the slightest insight in what is meaningful or not is assuming you have godly attributes.

Have fun in your life and follow your heart, not much more you can do to give it meaning..

I think art has alot of meaning in my life. It gives me a way to get therapy threw the brush strokes. Also its how I pay my bills, and that has a very positive meaning on my life.

Who determines what has worth and what doesn't?

If art makes you happy, then I guess it has worth.

Besides, art is pretty fun sometimes.
