First of all adding non-recommended additives will shorten pump life, injectors, and void part warranty. the days of adding ATF to diesel fuel went out with the "top Stop Injectors" and the Pt fuel system-- basically 1988. Aft doesn't burn clean, leaves a gummy film and will plug diesel mufflers, diesel catalytic converters, and the new particle traps. Also you don't want your diesel colored red if you have to go threw emissions--you may get flagged for using off-road diesel that has a lower tax rate because of the red color--until they find out it's not colored that way from dye..
The lower sulfur diesel has been for sale over the last two years--so if there is just now a problem with mileage now -- It's something else. Some diesel engines may show up to a loss of 8% fuel mileage over the old diesel and some seals on the injection pump may leak. So if your mileage is off by 25% look for other reasons. Worn out injectors the are "Poping Off" at a too low of pressure, injector nozzel leakage, and injector nozzel hole erosion are but a few. This loss of milage of 8% can be recaptured by using sythetic engine oil,

I use this .Go to napa an get there diesel fuel additive gt or gal mix with AFT 50% first time add 1 gt 2 a full tank then add 1/4 bottle per 1/4 tank of fuel etc. Adds the sulfur back as you truck like the extra sulfur. I have a 04.5 an have ran this since new. 4x4 auto i lost 4mph when i put a 1/2 tank bio fuel never again. Also check your fuel filter 8000 miles loss of mileage then power is the first signs, check air filter go to K&N drop in will give you 1to2 mph i put a dialbo puck 65hp in the 01 i had what a difference. Thanks for your opion Red been doing this for 10 yrs 3 trucks 3 diesel boats and have had the bests results. So i guess i will continual. Not 1 injector or pump or warrenty problem as this additive will not void the warranty.

yep, what redrepair stated. if you have that drastic of a drop in your mileage, something more than just low sulfer diesel. more like a 8-10% drop from the changes made in our fuel (which translates to 1.5-2 mpg).
I have been using a product that can be purchased at tractor supply and some Walmarts called "Power Service (or PS) Diesel Fuel Supplement +Cetane Boost" this was recommended by a regional Cummins certified Mechanic ...

when both my pump went out on my '02 last summer (shortly after the introduction of the low sulfer diesel in central TX) at 104K miles and my son's '98 24v (a month earlier) with 260K miles on the original pump (which is rare)...

definite, the study I even have performed tells me which you're able to desire to characteristic some style of lubricant to you gadget in the adventure that your are going to apply the extremely-low sulfur gas. The sulfur acts as a lubricant and the older diesel engines desire extra lubricant. the hot fuels would reason a breakdown of the older varieties of gaskets and seals. something so easy as basically somewhat transmission fluid on your tank can help do away with this. you will additionally locate that your gas financial gadget will drop with the hot gas via some million-3%. I very own countless diesels and that i've got performed a great deal of study in this. damn Tree-Huggers have screwed something else up! to no longer point out the hot gas fees extra!

Buy some 2 cycle oil you'll be good to go. Keep in mind you have a weak injection pump right off the bat. And the USLD isn't helping it any. If your injection starts to go your timing advance can be hurt and diffently resulting in lower mileage. I'd try to put a timing box of some nature on it to bring it above where it was before your mileage went down. Sythetic oil always is a plus for mileage too.

does not make sense to me either. but you are correct. the diesel fuel made now has no lubricity in it!! you are getting more friction and wear in your engine and injection pump. seen tractors with less than 50 hours on them and injection pumps shot becaus of lack of oil in fuel.
