I am going to upgrade to vista and i have a hp media center computer if i copy all of my videos to the D: drive (recovery) will they still be there after i upgrade?

how exactly do i transfer all of my videos to the d drive? nero back up?

Yes, just make sure you install vista to the right hard drive and not over your recovery drive. But you should be fine because your recovery drive will be recognized when you start windows vista, and all of your files there will be there.

You'll use up a ton of space. Recovery drives are usually on partitions that are set aside on your drive C:\ for just enough space to hold backup software.
