Not sure what that guy was thinking, but there is a boot camp in San Diego CA. Parris Island is only for those of us east of the Mississippi or for all women recruits.

At least in my platoon we got to write a form letter within 24 hours with our contact info, expect at least 3 days for it to get out. My first real letter took about a week. (You don't get actual "freetime" till the first training week, which is your second week on base). I got my first letter about 10 days in or so.

Just keep writing, throw in some pictures of yourself (he will get killed for it, but it is worth it) If he's smart he won't write often, instead he will use all his spare time to study and workout, however, he will probally write you on the weekends (expect letters on Wednesdays) and on special occasions.

Congratulations on catching one the best, I envy you on graduation day/

desert-viking what the hell are you talking about. try to not answer questions that you are not qualified to do. You are obviously not a Marine or probably not even in the military or you would know that there is a Marine Corps boot camp in San Diego. Anyone who is on the east side of the country goes to Paris island and any one on the west goes to the San Diego recruit depot. All females go to Paris island.

You probably going to get his letter some where around next week or so. The only reason is that he have to go through the receiving week. The receiving week is the first week that you can there, you will go through all kind of paper work and get yourself ready. Once everything is in place he will write you don't worry.

I'm a little confused. There is no Marine Corps Recruit Training Command (boot camp) at Camp Pendleton. The only one is at Parris Island in Beaufort County, South Carolina. So, I'm assuming he is going through training with the Weapons and Field Training Battalion at Camp Pendleton. If not, he's blowing a lot of smoke and you ought to find out about it.

i believe it will take at the very least one week, but im not sure. i know that for the first week they have all kinds of physicals and tests. he will be very busy. but they do encourage you to write home right away cause you wont have time to write, you will just be to busy the first week or two. not to mention being too tired. he's got one hell of a time ahead of him! he is going to be HURTIN BAD!!! (physically) not to mention missin home and then on top of all of that he will be missin you! but it is all worth it to be a MARINE!
