Anymore I don't know what it's about. It's been about so many things over the last 17 years or so. But oil? I don't think so.

War has been and always will be one of the most horrific and effective tools of diplomacy. The purpose of war is to accomplish one's goals when others refuse to cooperate.

Much of the Islamic world has stated and demonstrated that their goal is the genocide of all non-Muslims and the inactment of universal Sharia law. They have gone to war with the rest of the world and each other to achieve that goal.

Our goal is to not see that happen and to preserve our culture. The freedoms we hold dear - freedom of speech and worship, the right to elect and remove our leaders, - would be removed under Sharia law. Females would lose the right to vote and hold property, even to drive a vehicle or walk to the market uncovered. Our children would be forced to learn in an Muslim school and all other religious activity would be banned.

Just as our grandparents fought and died in the tens of thousands to face down Nazi fascism so we must fight to face down Islamic fascism. It took thousands of years to reach the level of freedom we enjoy now. The Magna Charta, the Renaissance, the break-up of the Holy Roman Empire and Catholicism's domination, The American and French Revolutions, the abolition of slavery, the enfranchisement of women and minorities, the World Wars ... all were steps to the world we have now where you are free to attend any church or no church, start a newspaper, post a clip on YouTube, or answer a question on Yahoo.

Surrender to the Islamic fundamentalists would end all that. The European countries are waking up to the fact that in a few years they will lose their governments to the Muslims. Once the governments have been replaced the freedoms they enjoyed will be removed.

Somehow, next to all that, cheap oil just doesn't really seem all that important.

I'm tired of people asking this dumb question, it is not about oil, it's about unifying another ally and freeing Iraq from it's previous dictatorship and getting tyrant outta power (let us not forget Saddam experimented chemical agents on HIS own people) who knows what he would have done... hell he was in the process of building a Victory over America Palace that never was completed so we know he was not an ally to us and eventually he would have brought war upon us....

The war in Iraq is a diversion. Plain and simple. If the news media is tied up with stories of war, then they are less apt to cover what Bush and his cohorts are really up to!

If the Republicans were the evil princes of the world that the libs like to paint them as then why are gas prices not controlled so that anytime a Dem is in office they are high and anytime a Repub. is in office they are low. Sorry I forgot it's not fair to use logic on a lib.

Silly lib come back in 10, 9, 8,....

I don't think so, because the cost of the war is so staggering, it would be alot cheaper just to buy and stockpile alot of oil directly.

Oh! It's not just about oil. But money, power, control, intimidation and flexing of muscle and machismo!

ooh ooh I do. Wars are usually fought for greed or benefit.
someone's benefit other than the people who are fighting.
Of course if that were actually what is said. Noone would
go. So it is neccessary to cloak the whole enterprise in
something noble enough for men to die for. and that is so
very very sad.
