If Joseph Smith, who mormons believe was a prophet of god hadn't have invented the polygamy revelation, noone would have practiced polygamy in the first place, and there wouldn't have been a break off of mormonism that believed in their prophet's revelation enough to continue practicing it even though it was illegal.
The FLDS has EVERYTHING to do with mormonism. The main difference is that the followers of the mormon church didn't have the balls to follow the prophet's revelation, and instead stopped practicing polygamy in order for Utah to become a state.
And no, I'm not defending the fundamentalists. I think they're both a train wreck waiting to happen.

If you JACKASS mormons would actually read the question, AND all the details, you might be able to come up with a reasonable response for the question. As it stands, your answers are completely worthless. They don't even address the question.

As I stated before, the Salt Lake church is the spin-off, splinter-group, fractuous church that denied many of the eternal principles of the salvation of man (and many women). It is Gordon Hinckley's group of misguided and misled people that have strayed from the one true Restored Gospel of God by disallowing the multiplicity of wives and allowing blacks to enter the priesthood as equals, plus removing the plain and simple slashing gestures and touchy-feel stuff from the temple rites.

Actually, the reason mainstream Mormons claim not to have anything to do with the fundamentalists is that besides polygamy, the FLDS tried to shut off its members from all outside contact, teach them only what they want to hear, and also forced underaged women into marriage, sometimes incest, only for the purpose of breeding more children.
The punishment for people who tried to run off was unthinkable. The fundamentalists put the police, teachers, and even the mayor on a payroll so that none of them would do anything about the numerous laws being broken. They kept girls out of school(instead forcing them to bear more children as young as 15) and didn't give women any rights.

Because they are different religions.
It is the same as saying the Catholics are the same as the Lutherans because the Lutherans broken off from the Catholics.
How can anyone give a reasonable answer to such an illogical question. Do you call everyone jackasses that doesn't agree with you?

Actually, many of the Mormon answers I see that disagree with you address your poorly thought-out question perfectly well.
See a shrink, take some meds. Do something. Your anti-Mormon ranting here is laughable.

You are right. Mormons can't decide if they want to deny polygamy or if they want to say that it's in the past.

Technically we do but, that does not mean we believe everything they do. FLDS mormons branched off from the LDS church to form their own organization.

11 We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may.

your question could also be phrased: Why do the Lutherans claim to have nothing to do with Catholicism? clearly they were related in the past, but not so today.
Poor logic....
