what i don't understand is....if teachers are the "professionals" teaching doctors, and lawyers and other high paying jobs....how come they get paid so much less??? I mean....wouldn't it make sense for the person training future doctors and lawyers to be paid just as much, if not more? after all, teachers are the ones "creating" these people....

i guess this is directed more towards college professors

my second question is
why do k-12 teachers get paid so little?

well, i live in florida and from what i see, the less money the teachers make, the dumber they make the kids...lol

supply/demand ultimately. If you don't like the pay...do something else.

teaching is not a difficult profession.

the old saying is...those who can do, those who can't teach.

university professors do get paid well.

there is no correlation between pay and performance for teachers.

teachers who get paid more are working in less attractive environments or have more tenure. it has nothing to do with performance. many teachers take jobs at private schools which pay less in order to not have to deal with less disciplined students.

Nationwide, the average pay for K-12 teachers is over $70,000/yr, and they get summers off, for crying out loud! That is more than most people make in any profession.

The big outcry over teacher pay started when healthcare cost soared and it became required of teachers to pay a contribution into their healthcare plan. In the past, the unions did a decent job of protecting the teachers, so while everybody else in the nation had been paying their monthly premiums at all the other jobs, teachers balked, cried and threw snits and temper tantrums because they suddenly had to pay like the rest of us schnooks. They are like the woman who had the Virginia ham under her arm and cried because she had no bread. Hell, most people don't even have the ham! Or the summers off.

Pay is what you make of it. Teachers are seeing less protection from their unions as the real world is creeping in. Welcome to Planet Earth. If you want higher pay, get another job. The pay is what you make of it.

I would say that teachers are probably underpaid because it is really a labor of love. However, when you consider the time off during a year, and the grattitude you receive from teaching kids, it's problably paid very well in personal satisfaction

Teachers don't get paid very well because baby boomers are basically selfish. They care more about themselves than they do their children. They spend all of their money on healthcare and legal matters which is why doctors and lawyers are making all the money.

Teachers EARN THE LOVE AND THE RESPECT OF THE COMMUNITY not money. Teacher are loved by their students without being in love with them, but they love their students just the same. Teachers are very good at relationships.
