He had no right to rule anything or anyone.
He was challenging God's authority.
God created all things perfect, with freewill to choose if they would appreciate what He had done for them.

excerpt from article below:
At first, he was a perfect angel in heaven with God. However, he later thought too much of himself and wanted the worship that rightly belongs to God.—Matthew 4:8-10.

Satan thus attacked what is called God's "sovereignty," or position as the Most High. Satan questioned whether God rules in a worthy way and in the best interests of His subjects. Satan also brought into question whether any human would remain loyal to God. By doing this, Satan made himself God's enemy. That is why he came to be called Satan the Devil.—Genesis 3:1-5; Job 1:8-11; Revelation 12:9.

According to Judaism, satan is not evil.
For Jews, anything that even remotely conflicts with the idea that God is One and Indivisible will be rejected because it precludes true, pure, monotheism. The idea that there is a God in heaven above who fights against a god of the underworld, or hell, is not monotheism, however, it is the same duality found in other pagan faiths. The Bible speaks of a character known as The Satan, who acts like a prosecuting attorney, or a district attorney, in God's court. However, The Satan has no power or authority in and of himself, rather he must get permission from the Judge, God, to do anything.

Well, from a purely theological perspective, evil is perceived and being anything that is against god. If you break a rule that god commanded, they you have sinned and sin is wrong. If you sin without repentance then you are evil. Lucifer (or Satan in most modern belief systems) felt rejected by god and believing that he was gods equal and deserved to be treated better then he was, rose up against god in a great war. At the end of the war, Lucifer and 1/3 of gods angels were expelled from heaven and banned from gods presence for all eternity. The question of why was it evil is because god has decreed that none shall be put before him and Lucifer placed himself before god, thus breaking the laws of god. Then he took up arms against god. In other words, treason against god, the ultimate evil from a religious perspective.

Of course, that is only true if you believe in such things. The odd thing here is that if you put the story into a more modern perspective, George W. Bush has an approval rating of just under 1/3 of the US citizens. That means 2/3 of the people in the U.S. are against him and his policies. However, NONE of these people have taken up arms against him as yet. That means that 0% of Americans have commit treason against Bush. Lucifer and 1/3 of gods angels, on the other hand, took up arms and went to war against god. So, if G. W. Bush is so awful and such a rotten leader how much worse was god. What could god have done so wrong that would make 1/3 of his own angels turn on him? Obviously he isn’t as perfect as Christians like to believe.

Then you have to take into account that according to most Abrahamic myths, god is omnipotent (all-powerful, invincible, indomitable) with the power to create or destroy everything and anything. If this were true, then the story should be that Lucifer and 1/3 the heavenly host stood against god and were banished for heaven for all eternity (or maybe destroyed on the spot) Either way, there should be no war. How could a finite being such as Lucifer oppose and war against an infinite being like god. If a war ensued then that means there was a chance as victory, no? So then god is not nearly as powerful as most would like to believe.

Personally, since the bible is loaded with discrepancies and lies, I have absolutely NO faith in ANYTHING it has to say. Then, as I learned more and more about it's history and studies comparative religions and saw haw many similarities there are between different mythologies and when they were incorporated into the different religions, I find the belief in a supreme god to be not unlikely, but absolutely absurd. Thus, the belief in a devil and therefore a war between the two to be just as asinine.

I hope this helps.

It wasn't that he wanted to do a better job in as much he was vain enough to believe he should be God's replacement. In going against God's will he was thrown from God's service. In respect to as vain as he is,this didn't sit well with him to be humiliated.Jealousy for mankind because mankind is God's cherished creation is the reason Satan is pressed into assuring as many as God's cherished creations go down in flames alongside him just to spite God Himself.
Satan knows who is the Lord and he'll have to pay his dues when the end times comes to the Lord.Satan is desperate to inflict as much heartache as he can before that time comes.
It is from this vanity that the seed of evil has sprung

Lucifer was an angel (I have heard he was musical in nature, which is why some orthodox groups feel music is evil). In any case, he became envious of God's throne, and as we all know, envy is a sin. His rebellion against God got him cast from heaven into the earth. From here he seeks to turn us away from God, as a form of spite against Him. To Satan, not believing in God or living a sinful lifestyle is the same as worshipping him. I'm not associated with him, I'm just the Devil.

God is the creator of everything! The creator of satan! God know better than everybody...he even know better and more things than the angels can ever imagine. He knows thing that even the angels don't know. And when an angel thinks he is better than a Guy that knows EVERYTHING then there is something bad and wrong there. God knows our future, past, present, and everything satan doesn't.

God created Lucifer to become evil. It's all part of the plan.

Satan is concerned only with himself, and this is what makes him evil.
