You'd better take it to the vet. My friend had two hamsters and they both started to develop some abnormality like that. At the end she found out it was cancer.

Hope you the best.

The question is what can be done to treat a cyst on a hamster ?

You may be able to lance the cyst with a needle and apply an antibiotic ointment after draining it, BUT I would speak to a vet first. A hamster is pretty small to go poking at with a needle.

I don't think you will find many people that disagree with not wanting animals to suffer. Now if you are saying I shouldn't be able to fish or I shouldn't be able to own a dog like crazy people from PETA say. That is where we part ways. Animals are lower in the food chain but minimizing their suffering is a good thing.

What about the hamster? If it's partly bald, take it to the vet immediately.

If it's an older hamster, it could be some kind of growth or tumor.
