One of my cats is pretty smart, she's 2 though.
She knows how to open doors, and the refrigerator.. which tends to be a problem. She knows how to play fetch with a little ball, or balled up piece or paper, or sock, ha anything really. And if there's no food in her bowl when she's hungry she picks up her bowl in her mouth and brings it to you. She'll chase you around carrying the bowl until you feed her.
...haha now that I think about it, she acts more like a dog than a cat.
Now her baby though, is without a doubt the stupidest cat I've ever seen. She is a year old and is so spastic and runs into walls and doors... she's in perfectly good health she's just dumb. Haha she takes showers with me; she loves water.
How does your kitten get up to the ceiling? o.o

Your cat sounds really acrobatic! Our 5-month-old kitten started playing "fetch" exactly 1 week after we adopted him. He learned how to climb the highest bookcases by watching our other cats. If there is a loud noise outside, like power tools or fireworks, he'll look @ me to see if I'm concerned & then relaxes when he sees that the noise doesn't freak me out. 1 of our older cats *still* hides every week when she hears the garbage truck approaching.

Kitties have a great capacity to learn. You just have to work with them to get results. For example, I taught my cat, Lucy, to sit on command. (I was tired of her tail end in my line of sight when she hopped onto my lap while I was watching TV.)
As I was saying, "Lucy, sIt!", I would push her rump into a sitting position. Then praise her and give her a pat on the head. It took less than 10 tries, and when I said, "Lucy, sit," before I could even reach for her rump, she sat. This was two years ago, and she's been sitting on command ever since.
She also responds if I tell her to lie down and pat the floor, bed or wherever. She runs over to where my hand is patting, and flops right down.
If you have a friendly, affectionate relationship with your cat and he/she trusts you, I'll bet you can teach your cat to sit, too. Try it!
