The Pope has apparently decided now is the best time to draw a line in the sand with the rest of christianity and through fear of Hellfire and Damnation convince christians to return to the catholic church.

Are YOU scared?

Actually, this has been a long standing belief of the Catholic church, the Pope just re-affirmed it by signing a document to that effect. The dogma of Catholocism has become so corrupt and twisted over the years. He claims the other churches aren't real churches because their founders can't be traced back to the Apostles.

The word Christian means Follower of Christ. In order to be a Follower of Christ, you need to acknowledge him as the Head of the Church because that is what is taught in the Bible.
The Catholic Church claims that the Pope is the head of the Church. Therefore by definition, Catholics cannot be considered Christians. The correct designations for Catholics is Paptist which means Follower of the Pope.
Also, the Catholic Church claims that their religion goes all the way back to the original group of believers and that Peter was the first Pope. However, the idea of one person being Head of the entire Church didn't come into existence until four hundred years after Peter died. Therefore, he could not have been the first Pope.
In summary, Catholics are not Christians. They are using the name of Jesus as a marketing tool to promote their own religion.

So....what else is new? Was bound to happen sooner or later, article says he had already spoken of it once, now he just made it "official"....

Christians whom have been studying the Bible aren't exactly surprised....lol, nor are those whom have read or seen the "Divinci Code", "National Treasure" and such films which I'm sure has not only the Catholic religion but the FreeMason Society and others in a stir.

Tracing their Bishops back to Christs era isn't exactly a good reason though.... lol, informal home Bible meetings range back even further...and many of the "other" types of churches sprang up from just that!

Roman Catholics like "pomp and circumstance" too much... Can you imagine Jesus on the Hillside trying to conduct a mass like the Catholics do? Or when they met in Peters home or in the homes of many other Believers?

I know I am speaking against the Catholic Faith, and that many here whom have become like friends are Catholic, but, can you honestly look at what the doctrines and ceremonies of the Catholic Church are things that Jesus would have done? He had much to say about the Pharacees and Saducees...what do you think He says/thinks about the buried idols, chants, "repeat after me" scripts handed out at mass, the expensive clothing worn by the upper levels of the Church, Bingo with Beer in the Churches, the expensive jewels and such of the Churches, the flea market sales/bazaars held within the churches,etc.,. etc.,. etc.,.?

Does that not seem a lot like what Jesus was angry about when He stormed through the Temple in Holy Rage at what His Father's House of Worship was reduced to?

Yet, not only the Catholic religion has erred...almost all have with one thing or another...

The Bible infers that Believers will be going back to the home based prayer meetings/fellowship because of what man has done to the churches....None of them will be spared a thorough examination by our Lord...

Jesus also said NOT to look to MAN for "Truth" but from GOD.

Last I heard, all of the Popes have been "man".

Just offering something for you all to think about.

May you all find Wisdom and Truth (me too) :)

Here is the full text of the new document that states nothing new: http://www.vatican.va/roman_curia/congregations/cfaith/documents/rc_con_cfaith_doc_20070629_responsa-quaestiones_en.html

Most Christian denominations believe that each of them is the fullest version of the Church of Christ.

While the Catholic Church also believes that she is "the highest exemplar" of the mystery that is the Church of Christ, she does not claim that non-Catholic Churches are not truly Christian. The Catholic Church teaches:

Furthermore, many elements of sanctification and of truth are found outside the visible confines of the Catholic Church: the written Word of God; the life of grace; faith, hope, and charity, with the other interior gifts of the Holy Spirit, as well as visible elements.

Christ's Spirit uses these Churches and ecclesial communities as means of salvation, whose power derives from the fullness of grace and truth that Christ has entrusted to the Catholic Church.

All these blessings come from Christ and lead to him.

With love in Christ.

no, why, hes not my leader and the church that Jesus established is based on the teachings of Jesus not the pope. My salvation is a gift, not earned..but because I believe in Jesus Christ, the author and finisher of our faith. The church has been an evolution of teachings that has strayed from the one church under Jesus. They have become a church based on traditions and idol worship and have forgotten the basics of who Jesus is. There are 7 churches mentioned all different mentioned in Revelation. They were unified by Jesus, not the pope or the teachings of the vatican based on bishops who call themselves, "Holy Father".

John Paul II was a holy man who tried to bring religion together, so were his predecessors.

Benedict XVI is an insult to the Papacy. I wouldn't wish death on anybody, but her certainly doesn't deserve his position. John Paul II brought everyone together, not just the Roman Catholics. He traveled around the world and inspired almost everyone he met, he even prayed to God that he would forgive the man who shot him.

Benedict sits there in his office, declares what he wants, and acts like he's the very sword of God Almighty Himself, he doesn't care about bringing people together, I'd ignore what he says.

I saw this as a best answer on someone's question:

"Protestants don't believe in the Catholic Church anyway so why does it matter to them that the Pope said something to clarify and teach the faith to Catholics. "

I have heard this all day long.

Scared? Not even close. Have you read the actual document? or just taking the liberal media's view of what it said? I am guessing the latter. Read the original, use your brain for something, make a choice for yourself.

By-the-way, this is also what the protestants have been saying about us (the Catholics) for years, just the shoe is on the other foot now, and they don't like it.

That's not a new position. It's just Catholic dogma. To see what other kinds of things they get wrong see http://www.bcbsr.com/topics/catholic.html

He's trying to alienate both Muslims and Protestants!

At least he's an equal opportunist!
