sounds like a real professional job...I would be concerned if it were me...but then again if it were me I wouldn't go to some "shop" that had a tattooist that didn't use gloves.

Ok think of it this way, your tat is an open wound, basically because you bleed and he had dirt under his fingernails and didn't use gloves and you knew this before hand and didn't say or do anything like run from this dive! If you ever have seen Carlos Mencia he has a word for this...De De De! I mean come on use some common sense. Before I got my tat I went around different establishments and asked questions, watched the artists, if they did use gloves and were clean, used an autoclave. Simple steps to make sure that I would be protected as well as my tat. So next time in case you get the urge to do this again remember:
Bleeding wound + Dirt= Infection
If his fingernails were dirty then he obviously doesn't clean them. And not to sound gross but how do you know that he didn't go to the bathroom before you came in for your tat and since he didn't even use gloves..you get the idea. Don't take risks like this again especially when there are so many clean tat parlors and artists that do use gloves.

Any professional tattooists will always use gloves to protect her/his health and the customers and also they would use paper towels not cloths. Just keep a very close eye on the tattoo if anything happens with it go straight to the doctor! O and never go back to that tattoo shop again!!

Any artist who won't wear gloves isn't concerned with his own health as it isn't uncommon to have invisible wounds around and under fingernails, and the blood of the complete strangers he's tattooing is sure to go there. And if he isn't concerned about HIS health, you can imagine how much he cares about yours.
That said, you'll probably be okay unless you're very unlucky. Still, for peace of mind, I'd definitely consult a doctor and take whatever tests he suggests. You might have to repeat them in a few weeks.
I know it doesn't help, but I'd definitely have turned around before he worked on me. Good luck.

I'd be worried. Good tattoo artists always wear gloves, and they use paper towels, a wash cloth would not be sanitary, that's a breeding ground for germs... Just watch for signs of infection...

No good. If I were you, I would use some antibacterial ointment on it and watch for any signs of infections. Don't let someone tat you without gloves and using a wash cloth. This is serious, you need to call the owner of this place and let them know what is going on. NOW!!!!!!!!

At least the needle was new. Keep an eye out for signs of infection and head to the doctor at the first sign.

Well its kinda gross but I would venture to say no you wont get a disease, however, you could get an infection so watch the tat closely and make sure your following the aftercare instructions very closely.
Oh.. and dont go to that shop again, lol

sounds like the place you went to was horrible and shady. that is why it is imperative that you go to a place that has outstanding health practices as well as outstanding artists. i would report them to the local health board.
