I am currently in the process of starting a civil suit against a man who has been stalking me, harassing me, filing false police reports against me, etc. Part of my case is based on numerous stories about him having been in the Marine Corps and what he did while he was there. I've just found out that he was never in the Marines or in Vietnam as he's frequently claimed and that he's only 48 years old which makes him too young to have been there. My problem is finding proof beyond just a reliable person's word for it. I checked with a few of the military web sites and it looks as though I'll have to fill out a form and mail it in but it'll take forever to get an answer. Is this the only way to go about it? I don't have a SS number but I have his name, birthday and home address.

Once you start the civil suit, you can have your lawyer supeona his discharge certificate. If he claims its lost, then make him provide proof of service. If he is a vet, he can easily get a discharge certificate in 6-8 weeks.

If he was a Marine his file would now be public record.
The thing that bugs me, I'm retired Army and have NEVER
in my life heard of a true Marine exhibit the traits this jerk has.

I'm almost certain there is no short road to where your trying to go as a private citizen. Law enforcement officials certainly could find out that information if it related to an ongoing investigation. Sorry I can't offer you more in the way of positive information.

You poor thing I'm so sorry you are going through this.
The info you have on him should be enough to hire a private investigator. Good luck
