GI Bill has nothing to do with it.

They will need a GED, and a successful ASVAB Test score as well as pass the physical exam.

They will need to clear up any legal issues. No felony convictions. Sometimes the court will allow suspended sentence to people who serve, depending on the charges. This is a good area to work WITH a recruiter on. I know a few good people who worked their way out of legal trouble by joining the military.

Recruiters generally don't lie. They have an easy job and don't want to lose it by lying. They are typically people who have distinguished themselves in the service. They sell an idea, and a career.

If they can get in, then the GI Bill is available to anyone. It's a simple YES/NO election. If they want it, they pay money into it to get 10X back if they decide to use it. But don't think it will buy a college degree from Harvard. It provides a minimum income while attending college, and the student can use it for any expenses.

The open court case will have to be settled. He will have to get a GED or finish high school. Sometimes they offer a program where he can enlist and then he has an amount of time to compete a GED program but that is hit or miss when it is available. If they put GI Bill on his contract, then he gets it. There is no reason he won't unless he doesn't finish his obligation. He may not qualify for bonuses or other enlistment options but GI Bill is pretty standard. Not all recruiters lie. Please do not judge them all based on a few stories in the news and what a "friend of a friend' went through. There are thousands of recruiters across the country. They can't all be bad. Ask as many questions as you want until you feel comfortable iwth the answers. Tell him to do well on the asvab and he'll have more choices and better opportunities. Good Luck.

He will need a GED no matter what to join. Also from what the army recruter told my hubby is that a person with a GED has to get a higher score on the tests they are given.

Yeah some recruiters do strech the truth a bit and keep some info that might run off a future soldier. We found out the hard way.

Some guys like to tell it as is and some strech or hide it. They get points for each guy they recruite, Heck the guy who did my hubby got a freakn bonus.

On the court case i wouldnt know, you might have to wait for it to pass over and what it is about really. Go to the recruiter station and talk to the guy in charge or the place and get answers from him not the ones who recruite.

I joined at 17 as a non grad. I finished High School and College in the Army and never even used the GI Bill.

well some recruiters will take you to a place where you can obtain a diploma in less than 6 weeks . they will do anything possible to get you in with everything you want even a big bonus 20,000+. Dont you know that the % of the military enlisting is so low. They are letting every body in. You should read military times often. good luck!

with an open court case he CANNOT enlist. without at least a GED, he CANNOT enlist.

GED holders do not get the same bonuses or incentives as HS grads get, they must score higher on the ASVAB, and fewer jobs are available to them to choose from.
