Okay, say there's a pregnant Mexican woman on her way to cross the US border illegally. On the way through the desert, she gives birth in Mexico. When she gets to the first possible town in the US, she goes to the police station (or wherever one might go in this situation) and tells them she had given birth to this baby in the US. Would they take her word for it and give the baby US citizenship?

Good question! Unless she can substantiate her claim, then I am guessing that another Mexican citizen has been born.

They would try to get her to where she can receive the best possible help and send here to a local US hospital. But other than that, i know you tried to make a point.

no. they would ask for proof regarding which hospital the baby was born, the father etc etc.

I'd be enclined to give the kid the benefit of the doubt, yes. Then I'd deport them, the mother, anyway. Whether she takes the baby with her is her choice, she is the mother, afterall.

It would probaly depend on how far that first U.S. town was away.People could tell how old a baby is.

That is not a question about immigration. It's a question about an illegal alien breaking the law...and stupidly risking her baby's life to do it...

I agree with whiz...she's not an immigrant...she's an illegal alien. She should be deported...along with her baby.
