My husband and I have been TTC for about 10 months now and 7 weeks ago I thought I was pregnant. Well, I took a pregnancy test and it was negative. I was still convinced I was pregnant so I went to the doctor to have a blood test done and it came back negative as well. So I just assumed it was all in my head. After all we had been trying for awhile and we both want this so badly! But ever since then I haven't really had what I would call a period. Both months since then I have had a brownish discharge at the time I was to expect my period. Never had to use more than a pantyliner, But I had to use them for about 3 days last month. This month it happened again but longer, about 6 days. about 2 wekks ago I started feeling really uncomfortable and cramping badly. but just on my right side. I have had neasua off and on too.

Can anyone tell me what are the sypmtoms of ectopic preg. and what they know about this. Do you always get a + on a test when you have a ectopic pregnancy?

Ectopic pregnancy is where the sperm reaches the egg in the falopian tube and not in the uterus. Most ectopic pregnancies end in an accidental miscarriage. When you have an ectopic pregnancy, the hormone that the pregnancy test picks up will still exist, so it WILL show up. However, even if you were pregnant ectopically, if the embryo does not drop down into the uterus, you will not be able to carry the baby anyways. Sorry!

You should get a positive pregnancy test with an ectopic esp on a blood pregnancy test which is a bit more sensitive. Signs of an ectopic are bleeding, spotting, pain and shoulder pain as well as more traditional pregnancy symptoms. Do you have a good set up for ectopic? Have you had PID or STD's in the past or surgery for ruptured appendix or surgery on your ovaries or tubes or a past history of an ectopic. If so revisit your doctor and ask for an exam and or an ultrasound.

What Are the Signs and Symptoms?
Ectopic pregnancy can be difficult to diagnose because symptoms often mirror those of a normal early pregnancy. These can include missed periods, breast tenderness, nausea, vomiting, or frequent urination.

Pain is usually the first red flag. You might feel pain in your pelvis, abdomen, or, in extreme cases, even your shoulder or neck (if blood from a ruptured ectopic pregnancy builds up and irritates certain nerves). Most women describe the pain as sharp and stabbing. It may concentrate on one side of the pelvis, and it may come and go or vary in intensity.

Any of the following additional symptoms can suggest an ectopic pregnancy:

vaginal spotting or bleeding
dizziness or fainting (caused by blood loss)
low blood pressure (also caused by blood loss)
lower back pain

Symptoms

An early ectopic pregnancy often feels like a normal pregnancy. A woman with an ectopic pregnancy may experience common signs of early pregnancy, such as:

A missed menstrual period.
Tender breasts.
Fatigue.
Nausea.
Increased urination.
As an ectopic pregnancy progresses, however, other symptoms develop, including:

Abdominal or pelvic pain, usually 6 to 8 weeks after a missed period. 2 Pain may get worse with movement or straining. It may occur sharply on one side at first and then spread throughout the pelvic region.
Vaginal bleeding that may be light or heavy.
Pain with intercourse or during a pelvic exam.
Dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting (syncope) caused by internal bleeding.
Signs of shock.
Shoulder pain caused by bleeding into the abdomen under the diaphragm. The bleeding irritates the diaphragm and is experienced as shoulder pain.
Symptoms of miscarriage often are similar to symptoms experienced in early ectopic pregnancy. For more information, see the topic Miscarriage

You will usually always get a positive on a test if it's ectopic - there is still an embryo there, it has just implanted in the wrong place, but it would still be releasing the HCG hormone which is what a pregnancy test tests for. Depending on where the embryo has implanted, it could pass but if it's in your fallopian tube (where most of the time they are) you would need medical help.
Best of luck and take care of yourself.

You would still get a positive result on a pregnancy test with an ectopic pregnancy.

Please go and have an ultrasound in a hospital. At least then, they will be able to look into the tubes. An ectopic pregnancy can kill you.I had a friend who nearly died because of the same mistake. Get a second and third opinion if necessary. Good Luck

If you had an ectopic pregnancy you would know about it because there would have been pain by now - also you would have still had positive pregnancy tests.
