I started my golden pups at 9 weeks old. Just remember they are babies and will poop out quickly so just be right there for them ok.

The most important thing is that the dog has a way to get out of the pool and knows how to do it. Dogs that knew how to swim have drowned because they can't find the way out. Also be sure to hose them off after - chlorine can irritate their skin.

I'd wait longer with the 9-week old. This is a period where they tend to have a lot of fears that can become lifelong patterns. He is also still very small and may have a hard time getting out.

Be sure they can get in and out by themselves. Let the littler one try the water without the bigger one present and get used to it. I had a lab puppy and an older lab and made the mistake of taking them both to the river at the same time. The older one caught the younger exploring a sandbar for the first time and knocked him clear into the river. In fun I'm sure, but he never did get over the fear that he developed.

Get him a kiddie pool to get used to shallow water first. If you have an in the ground pool, please be sure to train the pups how to GET OUT of the pool! More dogs drown because they panic and can't find the stairs. Don't leave them alone near a pool anymore than you'd leave a child alone near one. Accidents happen frequently!

Labradors love the water, it's like they're meant to. Feel between their toes and you will notice that they're even webbed to help them swim better.

I would think the younger the better to get them used to the water.
