If a recipe calls for an oven setting of 350 degrees for 1 hour and the same recipe calls for 20 minutes in a microwave (1200 watts) on high. Does anyone know or can answer which one uses more electricity? These days..I have to watch the usage closely. Summertime in south Texas can be brutal and the AC is used when I'm home. That makes my bill high. Try to save where I can.

The old fashioned electric oven sucks way more power than the microwave. Consider the fact that the outlet for the oven is a heavy duty 220 volts a/c outlet, and the one for the microwave is just a standard, low current 110 volts a/c outlet. That tells us that the old fashioned way is a/c wasteful. Use your microwave whenever possible instead of the old range.

Do you want good food or just so, so food? If you want good food cook it in the oven. I have found that a microwave is good for defrosting and reheating. The microwave is no good for cooking anything. It is up to you, Set the temperature on the AC up and have good meals. That is what I do. The AC is set on 80 degrees. Maybe it is not as hot here as south Texas.

skwonripken is right on the money. I really doesn't matter how old your fixture is, a stove/oven will always require more electricity to run.

actually it depends on what kind of range oven you have...if it is a gas oven, then you hardly use any electricity at all...

It can vary depending how new your appliances are. Nowadays everything is so energy efficient you would need to check the efficiency of your appliances to be sure.
