He was convicted of misdemeanor drug possesion when he was in his early 20's in Florida. When he submitted a form to the FBI wondering why he was denied they said that his conviction was for a felony and that he was also arrested for cocaine trafficking which isn't true. Obviously somehow they screwed up his records how does he go about fixing them short of hiring a lawyer. By the way if you are going to answer this by saying that he doesn't need a gun anyway, thats not the point and you obviously have a different opinion about it then I do and this is a serious question He doesn't know what to do.

You don't say where he is residing now but in Florida any felony conviction or any conviction of a violent crime, felony or not, makes makes one ineligible to purchase, own or even pick up a firearm.
One may have a felony conviction pardoned in Florida but the feds don't recognise the pardon.
The alternatives are to hire a lawyer, get the record corrected and then sue the feds for your expenses, time, court costs, etc., or just buy one private sale and don't tell anyone you have it.

Any firearms dealer reserves the right to deny selling a gun to anyone. Perhaps your friend has a felony, or domestic violence charge. Maybe he's under 21 trying to buy a hand gun? I really can't tell you why exactly, merely speculate.

In many places a conviction for any drug charge or domestic violence charge is cause for automatic denial of application here in Nevada if you are convicted of domestic violence it is illegal to posses a firearm.

When you are denied there is a number to call to dispute the reason you are rejected.
