We have a pair of cockatiels and I was wondering if the egg is no good, do they stop laying on them after a while or do they just keep sitting on them is we don't take them out?
We aren't sure if the eggs are any good anymore and was wondering if they stop on their own or if we don't take them out, if they keep laying until we take them out....

Yes she will stop laying eggs once you take the box out and place her into another cage changing her living quarters is the best way to get it to her that you want her to stop laying eggs. I have a female right now who has weened 2 clutches and was still laying eggs when I caged her into another cage. She layed 3 but now she isnt laying at all and its only been a week. You can also try leaving the lights on early in the morning time and late at night to allow them less time to sleep and she will stop laying eggs then too. But make sure her box is out of site. I have a certain cage I place my breeders in when its their turn as I breed one pair at a time. So they know when they get rotated into that cage that who ever they are with they mate with I have done this for 20 years. My birds are all acustomed to being rotated into and out of that cage for breeding and know what to do when they get there. GOOD LUCK!

It really depends upon how long the egg has been in there it isn't any good anymore if its been in there over 2 weeks without her sitting on it. If she has been sitting on it you should leave it in there cause it should hatchin 18-21 days. if it is fertilized. she will probably keep laying until you take the egg out or take off the nesting box you shouldn't let her lay more than 3 times a year.

You have to take the actual nest away, otherwise the instinct to lay won't go away. Try marking the eggs (GENTLY!!) with a marker on whatever date and remembering it, after a certain time you'll know they're bad, then just take the nest out. They may keep laying for a little bit after that, but they will stop eventually.

You should leave the egg in for a while or the mom might keep laying them ,lowering her calcium supply.

Just leave them for 3-4 weeks, and then throw them away if they don't hatch. If you take them away too soon, it will only stimulate her to lay more frequently, which can lead to calcium deficiency. Check out www.cockatielcottage.net for more info on breeding, etc.
