He's about 2 months old. We've had him for about 3 weeks & he hasn't gone to the vet yet. My boyfriends sister is a Vet Tech supervisor, so she gave him a basic check up, no blood work, all physical & he's in great condition. Very big for his age. He was in a litter of house cats, so no fleas, litter-trained when we got him. And just an hour ago, he has an oval shaped movable bump on the side of his neck. We have two older cats, 2 years & 3 years old. They both play with him & I know tumors don't sprout out in a matter of a day. But I'm a bit worried about him, it doesn't hurt him when I put pressure on it & he's off playing around with the older cats again. He probably just got bit on the neck & it swelled, right? Any other suggestions?

P.S. I know he has to go to the vet, my mom has work a lot, so it's hard to take him, his appointment is already set. And thank you everyone for anyswering so quickly :).

Well, he most likely has an infection (abscess) from some minor injury, like a scratch or poke. If it was even an adult cat, I'd say there was a good chance it would be ok, even though you should of course get antibiotics. But with a kitten you really do not want to take a chance. Kittens seem like they are made of rubber and are indestructible, but they can be very fragile. You really need to get him some antibiotics, even if you see the abscess drain, it could still turn into something more serious. And, that's if I am right. It's very likely, but without seeing him, I can't guarantee it's being an abscess.

Also, I know he's healthy and your friend is a vet tech, but your kitty needs to be neutered and get shots, tests and wormer - even if he is from a litter of house cats. It would take too much space to list all the reason here - just please trust me. It is very important to do right away. When you take him in for his medication for his neck, tell the vet that he hasn't been seen yet. He is not too young for neutering, btw.

OK?

Hi,
He might have been bitten or scratched playing and have an infection. I think he's probably due for his first vaccination now so go down the vet, pay for the immunisation and while your there ask about the bump. He'll need the vaccs anyway.....and de-sexing, of course, in another couple of months.

Sounds like an abcess. Cat bites can do this. Not something to ignore. The two other answerers said go to the vet--I agree! Quickly--abcesses can spread and make your kitty very ill.

Time for his first vet visit! A vet can check out the lump (most likely from a bite--it could get infected easily), check him for parasites, deworm him, run an FELV/FIV test, check for earmites, start his kitten vaccines, etc. Glad he sounds so healthy otherwise, but still needs a vet!

My cat has had a little bump on his neck for a long time. We took him to the vet and they said it is a mole. :)
