When is the 1st molt?? My bird hasn't really lost any feathers but one tail feather i believe got broken off and one grew in a different spot so I don't think he's molting hes too young. Is it possible to tell gender before the 1st molt? My tiel has (or had) 2 striped feathers til one popped out and the rest were solid. Ive seen so very light striping on the edge of the feathers next to the fully striped and some light stripes around the legs. Is this male or female? (remember NO MOLT YET)

Tiels will generally molt for the first time at about 6 months old. You'll know when, because there will be a billion little white feathers everywhere! :)
Males of most color mutations will have solid color under their tails and wings, females will have stripes and bars.

All birds molt 3 times a year but the first molt will take place around 8 months old.

It sounds like your bird is going through it's real first molt.

Solid colour replacing the stripes is a clear indication of the tiel being a male. Is it a normal grey or white face normal grey?

A tiels moult is not suposed to be dramatic. They go through a rather lengthy slow moult.

No moult yet? That's impossible if you've seen stripped featehrs replaced with solid feathers, that is a moult.

You tiel is still a jouvenile going through his first 'real' moult, it will take time & he will have some odd feathers yet to be replaced. My tiel had 1 single stripped tail until he was 2 years old, the rest had moulted through solid.

You tiel sounds like he might be a male & everything sounds perfectly normal for him.

They molt near the 6 month stage of life.

Female tiels have less constant color under the tail and wings.

The male has a solid color under wings or tail.

the first molt will be around 6 months. and as long as your (cocka?) tiel is not pied you can tell the gender by if it has orange cheeks or not. orange = male
