We atheists are often told that life has no meaning if all we do is live a few decades and then die... but really, how is that different for theists?

Isn't eternity meaningless? What's the point of living forever?

Exactly? The carrot at the end of terrestial life is eternal life; that's why religious people behave well. Once they get to the afterlife, what motivation do they have to behave?

What prevents people from raping and murdering in Heaven?

I think it's mainly a fear of death. If you believe there is some eternal afterlife than you're not going to be so afraid of dying. Personally I would rather live my life for the now rather than worry about some great unknown, which probably doesn't exist, after I die.

I think life is wonderful.. even though it may not be a bed of roses. Therefore, to be able to live for a few decades is meaningful if one is able to live life fully.

Life after death is something in the future.. something unknown. When the time comes, only you will know if there is really an eternity life after death

whether there is not any afterlife, could you pick to stay your existence understanding you performed no longer something and lead a depressing existence? the individuals who enjoyed you will remember your accomplishments and achievements and that i think of meaning greater suitable than the afterlife.

If you haven't learned how to live this life happily, you can join a religion and delude yourself into thinking that after you die you will be able to live better than you live now. But a loser had better learn to live here and now while he has a chance.

thats a good question.

its not neccisarily about living forever.

there is no real evidence that there is an afterlife.

i think if there was an afterlife,it would be kind of a reward for living life well.

no you have an afterlife, It has many names, the void, point of no return, infernum, I personally like the name Hell, Has a ring to it. But that is where you are going, to be by yourself for eternity, no one to scream to, no one to see getting punished, just you burning, and being eaten from the inside by woroms that never die, oh, Did I mention the pain never stops? yeah that's the glorious afterlife of an Atheist, you know a person once said, I love pain makes you feel ALIVE. lol.

To rub God's bunions. God wanted his feet rubbed, but since he's God, he knew that he deserved only the very best foot rubbers, so he designed the human being with strong, dextrous, sensitive hands. But that wasn't enough, so he concocted this entire scheme to gather only the cream of the crop, over thousands of generations, to bring to Heaven to rub his feet. And to make sure they do their very best, he causes them to absolutely LOVE it.
