In addition to the others who have posted already, I would suggest you have his ears checked (and cleaned)...... not that I would think this would be the overall reason as to why he is doing this, but "any" shaking of the head so much "could" be an indication of an ear infection, mites, or a bug. It might be good to hopefully rule this out. Also.....if your dog's diet is imbalanced and not high enough in calcium to balance out the phosphorous and oxalates, it could cause trembling (muscle tremors). Additional......This could be some type of digestive pain (gas, ulcer, etc.). Whatever is causing this, I hope you can find an answer to solve it. I must admit this is a tough one to answer.

well I hear that it is a way for them to remember the scriptures plus it soothes the soul .. I do it and one day I asked my sister why? She said I must be anxious about something but I am not at least I don't think so . But it is rather comforting.

Three things are clear:

1. LadySuri has given a full answer.

2. Your head is what's full of lead.

3. The position of village idiot may be about to be filled.

It's one of their prayer practices. Duh.

You mean to say chickens shake their heads when they pray? I didn't know that.

It's davening (or dovening). It's a very traditional way of praying, and tefillin (phylacteries) are often worn while doing it. The boxes on the arm and head contain Scriptures.

We don't do that, but usually we will sway from side to side or, more commonly, bob up and down while we pray.

Why? It's peaceful. Try it sometime, it really is. We don't do it violently, just gently. It's like with every word your soul is being pulled to G-d but then is pulled back to earth by your bodily form. It is a physical expression of our longing to be with G-d.

And it helps you concentrate.

Peace

We don't have pieces of lead on our heads, where did you get that idea? Ohhh I know what you mean. That's not lead. Those are boxes--one is worn on your forehead, between your eyes, and another is worn on your right arm, close to your heart. They are held in place by leather straps. It's called Tfillin (phylacteries.) Jewish men don them at the morning service (called Shachreit) because it fulfills the commandment to do so as found in:

Deut 6:6-8
6. And these words, which I command you this day, shall be upon your heart.
7. And you shall teach them to your sons and speak of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk on the way, and when you lie down and when you rise up.
8. And you shall bind them for a sign upon your hand, and they shall be for ornaments between your eyes.

Deut 11: 18. And you shall set these words of Mine upon your heart and upon your soul, and bind them for a sign upon your hand and they shall be for ornaments between your eyes.

Exodus 13: 9. And it shall be to you as a sign upon your hand and as a remembrance between your eyes, in order that the law of the Lord shall be in your mouth, for with a mighty hand the Lord took you out of Egypt.

The boxes contain these passages specially written on kosher parchment in Hebrew.

I saw that on the new Rome series in the last episode, and then my sister said that her Jewish friends also do that when in the Synagoue or whatever it's called.

So I'd like to know too. :p
