I was born in LA but moved to Chicago when I was 6. I've wanted to go to UCLA all my life and move back to California. I'm in High school now. Any suggestions?

UCLA is really hard to get into you need a 4.6 GPA. Thats what the seniors at my school say. Other than that LA rocks. During summer sometimes it's very very hot. But usually it's nice weather. And all the amusment parks are near by. And there is Hollywood and Highland, this awsome hang out that was resently built. Located on you guessed it hollywood and highland. There is the grove which is a similar hang out located on fairfax. Then there is Beverly Hills and Rodeo Dr. You can forget the beach, it's beautiful. The UCLA hospital is near the beach. And Santa Monica Peir rocks.
If you don't get into UCLA you can try USC. There are alot of great school. Woodbury U. There is this law school but I forgot the name, it's really famous. There is Charles Drew which is Med School. There is University of Northridge. CSUN and they're endless. It depends on what you wanna major in.

It is NOT too expensive to live in CA. As long as you manage your money right. Don't get me wrong though... I'm sure it's more expensive to love here than in Illinois. I'll tell you this... Apartments for rent are at least 600-1500/month.

I was going to move out of my house and into an apartment with my sis for 1295/month. That's a pretty penny!!

I'm very good with my money... so I bought all my household accessories from ROSS and MARSHALLS and HOMEGOODS. Those are the kinds of stores that have like off season merchandise for cheaper! Look it up! I love shopping there! Save a lot of money. I also planned on buying all my household cleaning supplies from the 99 cent store. You can find windex and other supplies for only 99 cents! They have kitchenware like glasses and coffee mugs and glass plates and cups for only 99 cents! But beware... don't buy any kind of toothpaste, good, or hair and body products! Could be defective.

Target is another place to save money on everything. Great prices! And you could buy target brand stuff for way cheaper!

I'm a GREAT bargain shopper. I've never lived on the streets or had a hard life but I know the value of money and I know how to stretch it a little. That's all you need to survive... learn how to stretch your money!

The most expensive thing you'll face is paying for school unless you have a scholarsip and the flight and cost to ship all your stuff over here.

If you're coming here to go to school... don't worry about transportation... bus is good to take and a boke would work if you're just focusing on traveling around school and stuff.

Anything further you will need a car... or need to know someone with one.

Everyone is so diverse here, you can make friend easily. Beware... there are many poeple who are unapproachable in LA... No one trusts anyone and everyone has trust isssues!! haha... everyone has just plain issues! But it's easy to make friends if you take that step to do it.

I love CA... The weather is great! No major storms or tornados. No snow. Summer is GREAT and fall and spring is beautiful as well as winter!

come to CA

Get ready to make an application and get financial aid. if you do not get into UCLA have some alternative Like Cal-State northridge, Chapman University and some of the many other Colleges and universities in the area.
p.s: Thank God you are coming to the area with an eye toward going to school and becoming educated! Hope you make it. be sure to let us know how things are going.

Aliso Viejo is a new city and faily inexpensive and right behind Laguna Beach. Location, Location. You can take the toll road into Costa Mesa or if you are working by the 5 Freeway, you don't even need the tollroad. Rent for the first year to get a feel for the area, neighborhoods and prices. Everything south of Costa Mesa is wonderful, but the prices will vary. You will be shocked at the prices of homes compared to Dallas, but the weather and things to do here are worth MILLIONS>

It's a great place to live but a bit expensive. UCLA is a great school, the surrounding neighborhood is great around UCLA. YOu'll love it here. You just have to have good enough grades to get accepted.

Good luck on your plans to attend college here, but be aware that as an Illinois resident you will be charged "out-of-state" tuition at any of the state funded California colleges and universities. Just curious, what do you plan on majoring in?
