Tray? They still make ice cube trays?
Seems to me that we used to freeze about five trays, one atop the other. The one on the bottom froze really quick, while the others froze more slowly. The ones on the top came out as solid cubes, but the ones on the bottom splintered, cracked, and came out with great reluctance.
The speed at which you cool a liquid determines the way crystals form. Slow cooling leads to larger crystals, and rapid cooling forms smaller ones. They have to be careful how quickly they freeze popsicle type treats.
Get yourself a piece of clean corrugated cardboard, cut it to the size of an ice cube tray, cover it with aluminum foil so it stays clean, and spray it with non-stick cooking spray. Put it under your ice cube tray, and it should solve your sticking problem.
Or you can get a fridge with an automatic ice maker. Of the seven wonders of the modern world, ice makers aren't number one - inside plumbing obviously is higher - but they're right up there near the top.

I bet sometimes you let the trays sit out a few minutes and they warm up before you fill them.. Other times you have used warm water to fill them up and they slide out fine.
Cold water in a cold tray with ice still in it will cause the ice to fracture because there will be varying layers due to the varying temperatures within that tray. Try warming up the tray with warm water and fill the tray with the same degree of water to keep cubes consistent !
Good luck!

Not sure, but washing them in the dishwasher, then LIGHTLY misting them with no-stick cooking spray will temporarily solve the sticking problem. But too much, and your drinks will have an odd taste.

If they stick, my guess is they are not 100% frozen.
