Why are those my only choices?

I am not atheist, but karl marx expressed this by the phrase 'False consciousness'. That the proleteriates (sp?) were led to believe that their hard work and suffering under the bougeoisie will be rewarded in the afterlife. Karl Marx disagreed with this and suggested that the only rewards the proleteriates could get were through a revolution, resulting in a classless society where there is no inequality, no haves and have nots.

wow. you obviously know squat about marx. even more obvious is your lack of thought concerning this question. have you ever actually read marx ideology. In theory , some of it is not so bad. The problem is ideals are often hard to achieve. There has never been a truly communist society. All of them claimed to be progressing towards communism but noine were able to shake the lure of capitalism completely. True democracies are just as rare, Communism and democracy are theoretically not mutually exclusive. Communism and belief in God are not mutually exclusive.

The biggest flaw in your question is the open ended "GOD". Are we talking a nihilist God who rules over suicide cult? Are we talking "GOD" as in 5 percenters that refer to themselves as "God"? Are we talking about former college basketball star God Shamgod (who some believed would be a great pro and were severely disapointed)?

I would prefer to live in a society that taught it's cityizens how to ask questions that are not asinine.

Neither. I am, in addition to being an atheist, a democratic socialist. Democracy matters to me, big-time, and my fervent hope, as an American, is that one day my native land shall embrace democracy and justice fully. Why Karl Marx, for god's sake. There are no major Marxist countries on the planet any longer. Typical Fundy question, eh? Oh, you little people, you sad, sad little people.

it's actually a bizarre false polarization, as you secretly make the assumption that Marxism is atheistic. Well, in it's classical form it's not, and in many of it's later forms it's not either. It is a theory of political economy and an ideology which seeks to change that political economy, not a theory about the nature of the universe. Historical materialism in itself is does not lead to atheism.

I am athiest, I would however belive in the society that thought there is god, Communism has been tried and failed countless times over, as TJ said (thats Thomas Jefferson), Democracy is a horrible form of government, but it's the best there is so far.

Karl Marx. Just b/c his ideals were different, and just b/c he though differently than others' at his time, does not mean he was bad, and most of his ideas were taken out of context, anyway.

"The road to hell was paved with good intentions." (Favorite quote by Karl Marx)

BTW: Marx wasn't an Athiest.

Does this society that "believes in God" is it a theocracy ?

Or is it a society that "believes in God" but keeps church and state separate ?

Question for you, would you rather live in a society that guaranteed the separation of church and state, or would you rather live under the Taliban ?

Marx was an awesome scholar of history. Something a lot of theists could do with emulating.

I'll take none of the above. Do you really believe those are our only two choices? By the way, Marx wasn't an atheist...

I need more information.

Upperclass - I would want to live in a superstitious society, where I can ignore you.

Lowerclass, - I take my chances with the masses.
