My dog was recently put down because of several problems that she had. Regardless that she's now gone, I'd like to figure out what she had.

What underlying cause could give a dog diabetes and anemia, both? At first we only thought it was diabetes, but then when we found out she had anemia, there was nothing we could do because they couldn't find the cause. Please, if any of you know, please provide the answer and a link to any information about it.

Thank you~<3

So sorry to hear that you lost your friend.

It is unlike that anybody here can tell you much without performing an autopsy, but one thing strikes me as strange. Diabetes can be treated and so can anemia.

Anemia is treated with iron supplements, and if that is not sufficient, it could be that leukememia is causing the anemia, in which case you'd need chemo for the leukemia.

Did your vet perform a postmortem?

I had a German Shepherd Dog that was born with genetic problems. She had virtually no immune system and got all sorts of skin problems. Improved food helped a lot but she was always prone to illness and she finally got so sick we couldn't stand to see her in so much pain and the meds weren't working any more. I had her for six years and she was one of the best dogs I ever had. I treasure the time she was with me, not all of it being ill by any means!
I think if the Vets couldn't tell you, then you might try a college that trains Veterinarians, see if you can ask this question of their Vets. In my state, there is Texas A&M where people go when looking for Dr. House solutions for sick animals.
I hope you can find something out but it sounds like your dog was like mine, had a weak immune system and was prone to disease. Sorry for the loss of your dog. How old was she?

blood work and tissue tests are the only way to figure out illnesses like that. Sorry, it'd cost a lot of money.

I'm sorry for your loss but without the full vet reports and blood work etc there is only guesses you will nevr know.
I can say it isn't contagious so it really doesn't matter.

They're both auto-immune diseases.
Had she had a litter of young? It's very possible that through the teats, bacteria got in, causing mastitis.
