Satanists don't worship Satan. Why do people keep telling lies about things they know nothing about?

Theistic satanism is a fairly new movement, and is largely based on Lavey's non-theistic satanism.

Cindy, you sound like an extreme christian.
A typical satanist would never be scared of god, because they don't believe in him, or satan.

Depends on what sort of Satanist they are, in fact.
LeVeyan Satanists are atheists. Satan is a representation of that which is worldly and physical, rather than spiritual.
THEISTIC Satanists, on the other hand, actually worship Satan as a Jew or Muslim worships God.
I dated one in high school.

No. I've met a number of Satanists, but most of them were atheists. The vast majority of Satanists, at least the LaVeyan ones, don't believe in a literal Satan.

Would the hippie on Guitar Hero II qualify? Otherwise no. I've only known people that think people are satan worshipers. ie, the Sheriff of Jefferson County, ID circa 1987 when there were supposedly all these 'satanic' rituals going on, when really it was just kids out there having fun.

Correct. Satanists worship selfishness (well, that is an extremely simplified version). I guess the idea is that to worship such selfishness is to embrace what Satan would want of humanity?? Just a guess...

I haven't. Can't speak for others.
And those who are speaking about satanism without studying it are proving their own stupidity. Satanism isn't about worshiping satan. Modern Satanism is about rejecting Christianity and many of the popular organized religions. They don't believe religion should be about holding yourself back from worldly pleasures but being yourself and indulging. It's really just a form of athiesm. Named that way to show their hatred for Christianity and what they view as hypocrisy.

No. Not as a literal being. I have heard of them, but never talked to one.
Well Satanists picked the name to yank the Christians chain. I personally am not too surprised it works.

Yes. I asked a manager of a retail store if he worshipped Satan, he replied, "Yes."

Um, yes you do.
Truth is, you know when you are in the presence of God instead of Satan and you scatter like roaches from the light.
True satanists know this is very true. True satanists know that darkness and principalities and evil spirits abound waiting to ravenge your soal as soon as you present it to them.
