It's okay, everyone...I'm from WestVirginia.

I would just like to add, before closing this question, that this question was simply an implement of war. I'm not dating my cousin, although some of them are kinda HOT!

I don't know. For some people it is like incest. I married my first cousin. I also divorced him but not because of our blood ties. I stopped telling people I was dating or married to my cousin after some really weird reactions from some people. By the way it is legal in 13 states and California is one of them. Also my godfather is a past president of the college of ob/gyns and I ran by the kid thing with him. As long as the cousins don't continue down the generations having children. The first time should not be a problem. You have to look at any congential issues you family may have like sickle cell or cancer. You don't have to be trailer park trash as I am a RN, BSN and my former ran many banking instutions our combined income was well over 200,000

Because they have been told their entire lives that it is wrong.... even though Einstein, Roosevelt, Jerry Lee Lewis and many others have done it, with no real DNA problems. Wonder how Adam and Eve got any grandchildren? 3rd cousins are called "kissing cousins" and technically, it is not "incest" for 3rd cousins or farther apart to marry. Just tell everyone you are "3rd cousins" so it's OK. When you get right down to the nitty gritty, we are all "cousins" via Adam and Eve or NOah and his wife, etc...
Authoritarians want to run (and ruin) every aspect of everybody else's life.... don't let 'em.

Because I guess it's just not accepted in our culture. Would you go into a country whose culture is to marry within the family and say ew! what *******! no, you wouldn't, because that is their culture. I am not saying this to you, but to the people who answered this in a mean way. you can date and have relationships woth whoever you want, but be sure to think it through before you do anything drastic, okay?

Typically that's not the practical thing to do. Some religions condon this, however, I believe it's your preference really. However, if things get serious between the both of you there will be genetical consequences if you both want to parent an offspring. Just something to bear in mind.

It is wrong to date family. Don't use living in West Virginia as an excuse to date your family members! Just because someone lives in the midwest does not make them nasty like you!

Because your cousin may be too close a family member for people to take it on board - lots of people would think it is incest.

Do you want deformed babies? If you're not gonna have babies with this cousin then the relationship isn't serious, so why be so concerned about what others think?
