I'm trying to go from this dirty job into at least a clerical assistant position, but all jobs want experience. How do I get it?

The easiest way is through volunteering for a period of time - look into agencies that interest you (like SPCA if you like animals, or a shelter, clinic etc. for those with people skills, etc.). You can also ask friends and family if they have anything that you could do for free, for a short period of time to build up your skills and experience.

All workplaces need some form of clerical work done: if you show you can do it there, they should be willing to give you a reference after a period of time, and you will have your needed experience.

You can still work your paying job in the meantime and dedicate a few hours a week to the other - it's more about the length of time you help and have the experience, than the amount of time you spend daily or weekly. It's a sacrifice of time, but hopefully worth it to break into the paid roles you're looking for. It also shows the employers your dedication to a goal, and that you're hard-working and community-minded!

Good luck!

Try volunteering at some local charity, in a clerical capacity. You can then include it in your resume.

Find a friend or family friend who already has a job in a company you're interested in. Have them hand in your resume to a boss with a their recommendation. That will give you a more realistic opportunity.
