I live in NYC and my bf and I am looking to get out of the city for a long weekend. I was considering Montauk, but I'm concerned it's turned into an area similar to the Hamptons, and I don't want anything too obnoxiously ritzy or touristy.

Here's what we're generally looking for in a place:
- pretty quiet
- not much to do (so we don't feel pressured to see any "sights")
- a beach (preferably not ultra-crowded)
- semi-affordable (but it doesn't have to be super cheap)

Thanks in advance!

Orients Point/Greenport on the North Folk. Montauk has really gone upscale in the last 15 years, but it's still not a ritzy, upscale mecca. Plenty of nice places to stay in Montauk, close to the beach, not overly crowded. On the weekends, however, you get the younger crowd and it gets noisy. The North Fork is more sedate and has a New England feel to it. The beach, however, is more pebbly than sandy.
